Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-04-21
1. Who we are, and what this is
Appreso is an AI-assisted learning app that helps you remember things that matter to you. It's run by Tumbric Ltd (company number 16113823), registered at C/O Accounts and Legal, 81 King Street, Manchester, M2 4AH, United Kingdom. In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Tumbric Ltd; "you" means you, the person using Appreso.
Appreso is a study tool. It is not a source of medical, legal, financial, safety-critical, or other professional advice, and you shouldn't rely on it for decisions in those areas.
These Terms form a contract between you and us. By creating an account, signing in, or using Appreso in any other way, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Appreso.
2. Who can use Appreso
You must be at least 18 to use Appreso. You confirm your age when you sign up.
We ask you to tell us what country you live in, because some features and legal protections depend on where you are. You agree to keep that — and the rest of your account information — accurate and up to date.
One account per person. You're responsible for anything that happens on your account and for keeping your sign-in method secure. We currently support signing in with Google; we may add or change authentication methods in the future.
3. What Appreso does, and the nature of AI
Appreso uses large language models — AI systems that generate text — to help you create, study, and review what you're trying to remember.
AI-generated content can be wrong, out of date, biased, or a close copy of something someone else wrote. It can also sound confident while being inaccurate. Treat AI output as a starting point, not a source of truth, and verify anything that matters before relying on it.
Don't use Appreso to make decisions about medicine, law, finance, safety, regulated professional work, or anyone else's health, rights, or finances. The imperfect nature of AI output is how the technology works, not a defect in Appreso.
4. Your content, our rights, and AI output
Your prompts. You own what you type into Appreso.
AI output. AI-generated content in Appreso is produced by machine-learning models. We don't claim ownership of that output, and we can't warrant that it is original, protectable as your copyright, or free of third-party rights. We grant you a worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use AI output we generate for you, for your own learning.
Your promises to us. You agree that:
- your prompts don't ask for content that infringes anyone else's rights;
- you're responsible for what you store in Appreso;
- you won't upload content you don't have the right to use.
Our licence to run the service. To operate Appreso for you, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, store, back up, index, process, transmit, and display your content to you. This licence lasts as long as we hold the content and ends when you delete it, subject to the retention schedule in the Privacy Policy.
If you opt in to Help improve Appreso (Settings → data controls), that licence extends to using data from your use of Appreso for improvement, training, and evaluation. This can include your content, study conversations, transcripts, voice recordings, feedback, and technical diagnostics, as described in the Privacy Policy. You can withdraw that consent at any time; we will stop using new data for those purposes going forward.
Sharing features, if and when we add them. If we later introduce sharing, and you choose to share content with other users or the public, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, transmit, and display that content for the purposes of the sharing you chose.
5. Acceptable use
Our Acceptable Use Policy (Appendix A below) is part of these Terms. Breaking it is a breach of these Terms, and can lead to your account being suspended or terminated.
6. Beta
Appreso is in a pre-release "beta" period. A few things follow from that.
- Appreso is free during beta. When we launch paid tiers, we will give you reasonable notice before any charges apply.
- We don't guarantee uptime, availability, or data durability during beta.
- We may change, remove, or restrict features without notice.
- We welcome feedback but you are not required to give it, and anything you do give us is covered by clause 4.
- If you actively contributed during beta — for example, sustained use, bug reports, or substantial feedback — we may offer benefits when paid tiers launch, such as free time or credits, based on criteria we will document. We don't promise any specific benefit.
- You can stop using the beta at any time.
- Your data during beta is governed by the same Privacy Policy that applies after beta.
7. Pricing, billing, and refunds
Appreso is free to use during beta, and we do not charge anyone right now. When we introduce paid tiers, we will update these Terms to describe the pricing, the seller of record who handles payments and taxes, renewal terms, how cancellation works (including any statutory cancellation rights you have as a consumer), and the refund policy. Those paid terms will be notified to you in advance and won't apply retroactively.
8. Free-tier usage limits
During beta, and on any free tier after beta, we may apply reasonable usage limits to protect the service — for example, a cap on flashcards or AI calls per day. We can adjust these with reasonable notice. Current limits, if any, are described in-app.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion starts within 30 days, and you can export your data from Settings before you delete.
We can suspend or terminate your access, with notice where practicable:
- if you breach these Terms, including the AUP;
- if your account has been inactive for a long period;
- if we are required to by law; or
- if continuing to provide the service to you would put us or other users at serious risk.
For serious breaches — illegal activity, content involving minors, or anything comparable — we may terminate immediately and without notice. When the service ends for any reason, your data is retained and deleted according to the retention section of the Privacy Policy.
10. Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep Appreso running but we don't promise any particular level of uptime. We will occasionally take the service down for maintenance.
We may change, suspend, or discontinue Appreso (or any feature of it) with at least 30 days' notice for material changes, or immediately where legal, security, or safety reasons require it. If we decide to discontinue the service entirely, we will give you a reasonable window to export your data before it is deleted.
11. What we don't promise, and our liability
Appreso is provided "as is" and "as available". Beyond what the law requires, we don't warrant that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, fit for a particular purpose, or that AI output will be accurate or suitable for any specific use.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that we cannot limit or exclude under applicable law, including liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; and
- any other liability which cannot be lawfully limited or excluded.
Subject to the paragraph above, to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- our total aggregate liability to you in connection with Appreso, across all claims taken together, is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) £100;
- we are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, opportunity, or data that you could reasonably have backed up.
You accept that AI output may be wrong, and you are responsible for verifying it before acting on it.
12. Your indemnity to us
To the extent permitted by law — and not at all where you are using Appreso as a consumer and the law of your country protects you against such indemnities — you agree to defend us, and to cover reasonable costs and damages we incur, if a third party brings a claim against us that arises from (a) your breach of the AUP, (b) content you uploaded that infringed someone else's rights, or (c) your misuse of AI output. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and cooperate in its defence.
13. Copyright claims and takedowns
If you believe content on Appreso infringes your copyright, email privacy@tumbric.com with the subject line "Copyright notice" and include:
- a description of the work you say has been infringed;
- enough detail for us to find the content on Appreso;
- your contact details;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised; and
- a statement, made truthfully, that you are the rights-holder or authorised to act for the rights-holder.
We will review valid notices in a reasonable time and remove or disable access to content that we determine, in good faith, infringes third-party rights. If your content is removed and you believe this was a mistake, you can send a counter-notice to the same address explaining why. We will terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly infringe others' rights.
14. Assignment and change of control
We can transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms — for example, in a merger, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of assets — and we will tell you if we do. You can't transfer your account or these Terms to someone else without our written consent.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes, we will tell you in-app or by email and ask you to accept the new version before you continue using Appreso. For minor changes — wording, clarifications, and the like — we will update the document and record the change in our changelog at /legal/changelog. A version history lives there.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
If you are using Appreso as a consumer, you keep any mandatory protections that the law of the country you live in gives you. Nothing in these Terms overrides those.
For any dispute that isn't protected by consumer law, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. Before starting formal proceedings, please email us — we would rather fix things than fight about them.
17. How to reach us
- Support and general questions: in-app feedback, or

Appendix A — Acceptable Use Policy
This Policy is part of the Terms. It applies to everyone who uses Appreso.
A1. Things you must not do
- Break the law, or help someone else break the law, through Appreso.
- Harass, threaten, or target other people — including hate speech based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar grounds.
- Send spam or unsolicited commercial messages through any part of Appreso.
- Access other people's accounts or data without permission, or try to.
- Interfere with the service — including denial-of-service attacks, scraping at scale, reverse engineering the client or server, or bypassing rate limits or access controls.
- Extract model weights or training data from AI output, or attempt to.
- Share your account credentials or let someone else use your account as if it were theirs.
A2. Things you must not generate or store
- Content that infringes someone else's intellectual property — for example, uploading copies of copyrighted books, song lyrics, or proprietary exam content to generate flashcards from.
- Sexual or exploitative content involving minors. This leads to immediate, non-negotiable termination, and we will report it to the relevant authorities.
- Content designed to deceive — deepfakes of real people, impersonation, or material presented as somebody else's words.
- Content that facilitates violence, self-harm, or other illegal activity.
A3. Things Appreso is not for
- Making medical, legal, financial, safety, or other professional decisions without independent verification.
- While driving, operating vehicles or machinery, or in any situation where your attention needs to be elsewhere — especially when using Talk mode.
- Making decisions that affect other people's health, safety, legal rights, or finances.
Appreso is not designed for high-stakes reliance and you accept that when you use it.
A4. How we enforce this
Depending on what happened, we may do any of the following: warn you, remove content, suspend your account, or terminate it. For serious breaches — for example, anything in A2 — we can terminate immediately, without notice. No refunds are due for terminations caused by breaking this Policy.
A5. Reporting
If you believe someone is breaking this Policy, email privacy@tumbric.com with the subject "AUP report" and enough detail for us to investigate.
